Then he, or rather Tom Holland at least, got the idea of making Charles Lee Ray the human from these real life serial killers who strangled people. www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/predators/stranglers/rampage_1.htmlInitially the cops where looking for what they thought was one killer but ended up being two... Makes you wonder if Eddie Caputo played a larger role in the "Lakeshore Strangler" killings. Also Charles Lee Ray's name is derived from 3 famous killers. Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray. Here is more on that Robert doll.

That's a creative writing article about Robert, with no references of Don actually saying that Chucky is based off of that piece of shit. Chucky is used in the first paragraph of the article (and never mentioned again) to establish a connection with the reader, and entice them to read further. As far as I know, Don has never made any claims of that doll being the inspiration for Chucky. If someone can find me actual proof of him saying so, then I'll believe it. But until then, no. Absolutely not.

I have a friend at work who actually went to see this not too long ago and everyone in the tour group was too scared or paranoid to really go up to it.

Good Point Glenda... I too never heard Don mention that. If anything I am more inclined to think that if Robert did give any inspiration for Chucky it would have been to Tom Holland because of it's Voodoo background and we all know how Don feels about the Voodoo element. Also for the fact that Tom Holland pretty much rewrote Don's original script.
That is an ugly doll.

I wouldn't go so far as calling it a piece of shit...I mean I'm not really in the position to say what was truly going on in Don's mind when creating Chucky (because nobody does other than himself lol) but I've seen quite a bit about Robert the Doll when searching 'inspiration for Chucky', it's typically the first thing that comes up which makes it kind of hard to just chalk it up as a creative writing piece, and I mean even if it wasn't Don's initial idea...he must have approved it on some grounds considering he went through with it lol

True but how many famous doll hauntings are out there... Chucky being the top dog of haunted, possessed, or living dolls is right away going to be associated with any legends that exsist right off the bat.
Also there is enough of Don's input out there on how he came up with the initial idea for Chucky and I don't think he'd be the type to feel like he couldn't share that piece of info.
As far the doll being a piece of shit... well it's not the kind of doll that looks huggable by any means. Lol.
