That building a famous for many reasons so I don't see it even being demolished unless if a world disaster happened.
As far as Karen affording it... Maybe her husband had a good life insurance policy, or a military retirement fund, etc. Anything to keep her going perhaps. If he had good life insurance he could have had an accidental death and/or dismemberment rider attached to his policy. I am pretty sure that's how Sarah was able to afford that big house for her and Nica.
Plus it was the 1980's and retail was a lot different back then as well as cost of living. Retail now... the wages are still like the 1980's but with commission goals that are just shy of being out of reach and the cost of living has sky rocketed. No way she could afford that place now.

I think she's getting Andy's father worker's comp. I seriously think he was killed in a work related accident...that means big coin for the family

I liked the apartment itself... the hall way and elevator... not so much. IDK what it is but it feels... cold.

I wouldn't be shocked if the rent there was a good $1700 a month. That's the average rent in Queens NY and Chicago is a major city.

I am 4 hours from Chicago and my hometown is 2 hours past that. I should find it next time I go home for the holidays.
