Yeah I know the feeling, same thing happened to one of my Star Wars trilogy.
One of the many positives about the leap from VHS to DVD. Wish I could say the same about the leap from DVD to Bluray, but it just doesn't have enough advantages to make me go out and buy a stand alone Bluray player and all my films again. I own Curse on Bluray and that's it, and I use my PS3 to play it. I know you get crisper picture, better sound, it can multitask, letting you browse the menu while watching the film, but it's all convenience stuff for me. When DVD came out it was great, such a good feeling not to fear it being taped over, getting chewed by the VCR, the picture fading after so many play throughs etc...
For so many of us though, our childhoods were built on the poor quality of VHS. I still have a shit load of films on VHS that I just can't bring myself to throw away.
Remember getting a 3 or 4 hour VHS and taping a film, stopping recording at every advert break, then seeing if you had enough tape left afterwards to tape your next film? Kids these days don't know what they're missing. Lol

Just like to add that I know we've strayed from the subject at hand and I apologise profusely

Lol it's fine, and I know what you mean. My Xbox One or my PC is my Blu-ray player for me. But yeah, that feeling of anger and dispair you got when you pulled a tape out of the VCR and the tape itself would string out from the container, like the entrails of a fallen friend.
