It has it's place in the timeline, and in a lot of fan's hearts, but it really depends on what direction they want to take the film.

I think sticking to it would make it harder storyline wise. This means that they would to figure out some way to keep using his same body or somehow he gets damaged in a similar fashion... even for fiction it's unrealistic.
As we saw in Curse his stitched look was significantly reduced to being just his face to keep up with the demands of the story. It's actually easier to have him coming back as a new looking doll each time.
Or... he could comeback with damage or have his sole transferred into a used doll that has play damage from kids. But to keep coming back with the same particular look can back the story into a corner.

Pretty much. Maybe someone will make a custom Good Guy Doll like some the fans do, and he gets transferred into that.
