Okay, so I was watching Cult earlier and was thinking about exactly when Chucky got this ability to multiply his soul into other dolls/bodies.
I know many fans on the FB page have complained about his motivations from Curse to Cult where it concerns Nica. How we went from wanting to kill her to inhabiting her body.
Here is my thoughts on this.
I want to say that during Curse, Chucky didn't not discover how to do this neat trick to with his soul yet. At the end when we see him with Alice, he uses the old chant so regular soul transfer. Why he'd hang onto his doll body, plot convenience.
Shorty after this event, new Voodoo spell discovered, splits soul back into the doll... Mailed to Andy's house... Cult events take place 4 years later.
Now, it could be argued that he knew the soul split before Curse, but then why go from wanting to kill Nica to wanting to inhabit her body. If you think about it, if you're options are limited, meaning you can only choose one body, Alica gave him a better strategic advantage than Nica would have. Having options, well if it's a worser fate to have her mind and soul take a back seat whilst Chucky has the wheel, then why not. So he gets to have his cake and eat it too.
Again, this is just a theory since we don't have an official answer. We're not entirely sure if Don knew where Cult was headed before he was done writing Curse, so for arguments sake, let's say he did not... This does help make sense of the Alice scene to Andy scene in Curse.
If he did know, then they just didn't have a new chant yet, and using different words in the chant like he did in Curse... Would have spoiled a few things and caused too much speculation as we all know it well.
One thing I'll admit, these movies aren't perfect by any means, and there are a few plotholes through out the franchise, but it at least tries. Most films give up by the 4th or 5th movie. Lol.
