Only a short interview, but around the 1:30 mark Jennifer mentions a line Tiffany originally had about how she missed Glen and Glenda but Universal demanded it cut from the movie.
Think that shows just how much Universal thinks of those characters.

Never thought I'd say this, but thank God for studio execs.

I've read it too. They want to cancel that chapter from the franchise...

I'll admit, I wouldn't mind a reference. Hate them or love them, they're in cannon, and yes whilst the comedy associated with those characters is a scary place to step into, it is a little messed up that we don't get a mention as the Seed fans do make up a portion of this franchise.
At the same time I can not blame Universal to taking caution as it was Seed that took this out of theaters.
I remember when I went to see Seed and the theater owner, who was an aquaintence of mine said "No more Chucky films" At the time I was highly offended but if they we're going to continue in the direction they we're, it would have sullied was remained of this franchise.
So better for Universal to play safe than sorry. Still, I am surprised by the amount of camp we did get in this film. I won't lie, there were parts that made me cringe.

Yeah, I'm totally fine with a reference, but I don't even think that would appease most. It seems like die-hard Seed fans want a Glen/Glenda doll resurrgance with the Glen doll killing everyone with kung-fu or some shit like that.
So a simple reference would have been fine, assuming they aren't "dead" (if that even means anything anymore in the Chucky-verse because the powers seem to be boundless). As you noted, with the amount of camp, they could have shoe-horned that in anywhere really. Shit, especially with the patient treating Chucky as her son, they could have had a joke or a quip about Chucky having kids.

Maybe the line about Glen and Glenda was conceived for the end, for the car scene, when Tiffany talks about Alice with "Charles"...

I could also see a possible reference when Tiffany talks to Nica earlier in the movie, giving her the news about Alice. Tiffany could have said something about "having kids of her own".

Amazing how it was Universal, and not Don, that put the kibosh on that one.
I watched a YouTube review for Cult and the reviewer did not like this movie. He also stated that he hated Seed, but since it's existence is there that Don should have stood by his "piece of shit" and included Glen and Glenda info in the movie.
Fair enough, but... Apparently this decision was above him so that is also an unfair statement.
Still, it's Universal that has a problem with it. If Universal is too afraid of even them being mentioned in a movie, I highly doubt that we'll ever see them again.
Can't fight City Hall.

Apparently, if you listen to the commentary you'll discover just how much of Don's original material was dismissed by the studio

Apparently, if you listen to the commentary you'll discover just how much of Don's original material was dismissed by the studio I hope to have the commentary included in the italian dvd release (in stores on 29 November). On CURSE wasn't available. I can't uderstand all this hate about SEED and now CULT (facebook is full of bad reviews). There are fans who loves this new installment, but seems that the haters are more there. I respect all the views, but i hope to see another director for a reboot or next installment! I want James Wan on the director's chair James Wan + Don Mancini = Success

Well I don't love it, but I don't hate it either, but I am sick of seeing people be hypocritical assholes and accuse people of not being "true fans" because they don't love it, and vice versa. Just let people have an opinion of a film without questioning their fandom or calling them "close minded" just because they disagree with you.

I agree, but it's sad too to read bad words about Don's work. I don't think it's perfect, but i love his view to try different and controversial things for the Chucky legacy. Isn't common in the horror genere!

Yeah, but at the same time, not everyone is going to like taking stuff in new directions just for the sake of it, because honestly, it keeps creating all these plot holes and continuity problems that we are supposed to just "deal with it" because he didn't want to tie up loose ends before creating more. I mean lets not kid ourselves, the franchise nearly went into the grave with Seed, which was directed by him. I don't want anyone else to take over the franchise, but I don't think directing is his best role in the movie. Usually when one person gets too much control over the entire project, you're going to have issues, so I can't blame Universal for stepping in, as they have an investment to protect as well.

I'm curious about a reboot, but with another director. I want James Wan because he's a fan of the dolls subgenere. He did a good work with Dead Silence, Insidious and the Conjuring.

I don't want a reboot personally, because as much of a fan I am of the series, the fanbase is already divided and hostile enough. I don't want to ensure another dimension of "if you're a true Chucky fan" bullshit.
