Yeah but I think that would give a lot of bad taste to viewers, especially in America where we criticize and categorize everything as some sort of offensive. I thought Curse was pretty ballsy for having him stab a preggo woman, but actually killing is another thing, same thing goes for children.

After the controversy surrounding CP3 back in the early 90s, it wouldn't be a wise move to off a pregnant woman or child.
Also Spanky, I think you're right. There's very little subtlety, tension and build in todays films.
It seems to be about an instant hit, unfortunately.

Yeah and I mean I like both sides of that coin, but it has to fit. As mentioned, one thing I love about the first two where the POV scenes.
Another aspect is the child knowing Chucky is who he is (kind of) but the adults having no idea. I think that is one aspect they wanted to bring back in Curse, but Alice wasn't the protagonist like Andy was.
All this being said, the age old debate of stitched versus unstitched comes into play... again. And look how Curse kind of validated some of our beliefs on this. If you want to go for creepy, unknowing, child-centric, then Chucky has to be clean. One of the best parts of the originals was when the cat was still in the bag, and that can only be the case if you don't suspect anything from the doll, which can only be the case if he looks like an actual doll, which fits best if there's a child heavily involved.

Yeah but in those, he still looks like a doll. No parent in there right mind would let theor kid own a doll that looked like he did at the end of Curse.

Guess I'm one of the only "younger" guys who actually prefers a good story over gore lol. I mean, I guess gore is cool when done right, but as others have said, it shouldn't replace the story.

Lol, yeah I mean I was just speaking in general, but yeah, I mean gore is sometimes added for a lack of, or a shitty plot.

I think I'd like a happy medium. There should be gore, but more uncomfortable gore rather than disgusting gore. My favorite "gore" scene was from the first Child's Play, when Chucky finds John Bishop's voodoo doll and proceeds to break it's limbs. You didn't see too much, but it was enough to make you wince a bit.

I think Chucky slowly slitting someone's throat would have more of an impact than seeing him make someone's head explode. There is a right way and a wrong way to do gore.
Now as far as Hatchet... that's a movie where you know what you're walking into. So that really an apples to oranges comparison.
These films were more built on suspense with a slight twist of gore. Of anything gory makes a comeback it should be Chucky getting fucked up. Lol.

Yeah, there's like intense gore that adds to the scene, and over-the-top gore that's there just to be there.

I agree with ViolentDolly in her gore tastes, my type of gore is where you see a little, then let your brain make up the rest, still makes you shudder a bit.
Also, I don't know why but it drives me absolutely crazy when people say "preggo" instead of pregnant. It's an insult to intelligence lol.
