From what I remember, Blood Buddy was an early screenplay of CP1. It has quite a few differences. In BB, Chucky was originally called Buddy, a reference to the My Buddy dolls that the Chucky doll is rumored to have been based on, and was supposed to be kind of a manifestation of Andy. In BB, the Good Guy dolls had latex skin, and could be ripped. Apparently Andy did a blood ritual with the doll, which caused the doll to come alive while Andy slept and killed off Andy's enemies.

I believe "Blood Buddy" was one of the original ideas/names in the early stages of development where the idea was the doll would come to life via some blood from the child coming into contact with the doll? I am not entirely sure.

What they said. Lol.
Once Tom Holland got a hold of it he pretty much changed the script. Oddly enough... Tom Holland wanted to make a character that was a one and done deal. Meaning no sequels. Meanwhile the original concept would have made it harder for there to be a franchise. Don Mancini himself has said that with out Tom Holland's contribution, Chucky wouldn't have been able to be a franchise entity.
Some of the concepts like Chucky killing Andy's authoritative figures in his life did make their way into CP2 and CP3.

He was alive. It was just he was meant to be more of an entity. A representation of Andy's id. But not nearly the three dimensional character we got in Chucky.
