I know this has been discussed, expressed, and talked about but never given a thread.
Why was the "Child's Play" name abandoned?
Also... how did you feel about it?
Part of me thinks that the character became bigger than the name. Even when I was a kid my father would tape movies from TV or rental videos... fun since it required 2 VCRs lol.
After the first one he got lazy and labeled the next 2 films "Chucky 2" and "Chucky 3" so it was already implanted in our heads when someone says the name "Chucky" you automatically think of the killer doll.
It's not like Chucky was the only one. Freddy and Jason both had movies that weren't titled under their respective franchise names so I guess it's just how the stream flows.
So maybe they felt they didn't need the "Child's Play" name anymore. Still... I am OCD and would have liked to have seen these other films undet the "Child's Play" banner.

Bride of Chucky sounds much better than Child's Play 4, or Child's Play 4: Bride of Chucky. People get it. By the time CP3 came out, Chucky was a pop horror icon. People know the name. Bride of Chucky is also a riff on Bride of Frankenstein. What would be the point in going back now?
It was purely a creative decision on Don's part.

I think it was because the character got bigger than the name Child's Play. Plus, it wasn't really focusing on Andy anymore, so there wasn't really a reason to call it Child's Play anymore. Personally, I love the "Of Chucky" titles better, so it doesn't really bother me.

Yeah I think once it left the realm of a child being Chucky's main target, then it kind of didn't fit the name.

I guess it kind of makes sense. Like the first 3 movies being a seperate Trilogy from the other films...
However, Curse was so different from all of them.

A lot of people recognize the movies as "the Chucky movies" and not "the Child's Play movies". Even though I think the title works great for the first three movies, I think the changed titles worked just as great for the other movies. It's a nice change.

Just like Star Wars... the original trilogy was were it was at. I'm glad to be old in this instance. I saw it all from ground zero.

It also fits the change in film style as well in my opinion. Bride of Chucky sounds better now that there were no children involved haha.

Chucky should take Tiffany's ass on Maury and get a DNA test.

Imagine if Glen was Damian's son...
Actually... that makes a lot of sense now that think about it. Lol.

With the way Seed portrayed the effects of Voodoo would it be that much of a shock? Lol.

Chucky should take Tiffany's ass on Maury and get a DNA test. "Mr. Ray... Your are NOT the father!"
